Overview
Holobiont Diagnostics Ltd is a spin-off company established in 2022 with the purpose of taking microbiome-based diagnostics solutions to regulatory approval and commercial stage.
The founders have a track record of coordinating and leading international and national Projects (H2020, OTKA, Lendület Program, etc). Successful results in earlier projects include development of IVD techniques, antibody isolation, biomarker validation, and correlative prognosis.
Background
Holobiont Ltd is a close collaborator of University of Lund (SE), and University of Debrecen (HU) where their main joint work involves microbiome analytics and early stage prediction of breast cancer cases. Cancer is the second leading cause of death globally, causing 1 in 6 deaths. If cancer is diagnosed at early stage, it is highly likely to be treated successfully. Once it has grown and spread, therapy is vastly more difficult and costly, and survival rate drops rapidly. Screening is a vital healthcare element for early detection but suffers from burdens of cost, capacity, compliance, and detection sensitivity problems.
Concept
Our research resulted in a candidate diagnostic method that is based on detecting dysbiosis of gut microbial flora, a highly sensitive indicator of pathophysiological processes able to selectively show disease onset at super-early stage, even before histological changes are observable. The method will be extended to cover the detection of most cancer types and other high impact diseases, making it a future platform technology.
Vision
Our technology offers the prospect of regular, non-invasive, full spectrum screening of personal health status in the home, effortlessly integrated into daily life, with innately digital, AI-supported automated first-line evaluation.
We are developing a non-invasive Point-of-Care test that can be used as an affordable, effortless screening method to detect early signs of an emerging health condition (e.g. diabetes, cancer, stress-related disorders, Parkinson’s, etc) much sooner than current diagnostics can typically reveal, enabling highly effective, pro-active treatment.
